The album "Incontri” by Federica Lorusso (February 14th, 2025, ZenneZ Records) could be considered a sort of evolution of her first album “Outside Introspections”. Once again, we find introspection and personal reflections, however, the themes become more conscious. The gaze is now turned towards social issues, becoming more mature and defined.
After a 4- month journey to New York (where Federica composed a big part of the album), a dynamic city full of opportunities but also many contradictions, this album aims to be an invitation to listen to oneself and the surrounding world, to reconnect with nature, with one's inner child, and with the people around, in a world where noise, speed, individualism, and prevailing over others for one's own success seem to be the cornerstones on which today's society rests.
While the album draws influence from the jazz tradition, it is not confined to a single genre. Instead, it explores a diverse range of musical styles, incorporating elements of jazz fusion, contemporary music, and experimental sounds. Improvisation remains a cornerstone of the music, allowing for spontaneity and creative exploration in each composition.

“I have had the privilege to have Federica as a main subject student during the last two years of her Bachelor study at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague (2018-2020).
She was and is very much steeped in the hard-bop tradition but she showed a great eagerness and willingness to work hard on deepening her knowledge of other directions of jazz and to explore more free, abstract and/or lyrical forms of improvisation.
It was a joy to see her fast development in those two years, both technically and artistically.
In a short time she had turned into a more versatile musician who likes to challenge herself and who is able move in different- and even contrasting directions without losing her identity as an improviser and composer, always with the jazz tradition in its’ broadest form present.
Apart from being a pianist she is also a wonderful singer which, makes her profile as an artist even stronger in my opinion.
The snippets I see of her development lately (unfortunately through the Socials only, because of Covid times) show that the line of development I have seen is continuing and extending at the Conservatoire of Amsterdam where she is doing her Master, which of course makes me very curious to hear her live soon again when the times allow it.”
